About Our Services

At Positive Speech, we work with adults and children who have difficulties communicating. Communication problems include speaking, spoken and written comprehension, reading, writing, voice issues, pronunciation and stuttering.

Additionally, we offer assessment of and treatment for Orofacial Myofunctional (OM) disorders to encourage proper growth of the face and mouth, which can be the result of improper development. A number of functional issues may arise from an OM disorder, including tongue thrust (an immature swallowing pattern), incorrect tongue rest positioning, tongue tie, mouth breathing, crooked teeth and poor posture. This can, in turn, have an effect on speech.

Without treatment, pain and sleep disorders may also eventuate.

Over time, the orofacial muscles are retrained to allow for correct function, thereby developing the facial structure and encouraging proper patterns of use. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) addresses the underlying causes, correcting the disorder for the long term.
